One usage unit across every model, with spend protection that's structural rather than promised.
What is a credit?
A credit is Akili's usage unit: roughly 1,000 tokens of model usage, cost-anchored to what models actually cost to run. A heavier, more expensive model doesn't need a different meter — it simply consumes credits faster. That keeps the mental model constant whether you're on a cheap fast model or a frontier one.

Team and Business pools are shared across the whole organization: one researcher can have a heavy week while everyone else stays light, and nobody files a ticket about it. Admins get a per-member breakdown of who drew what.
What happens when you run out
- By default, usage pauses. When the pool hits zero, requests stop until the monthly reset or a top-up. Nothing bills behind your back.
- Auto-refill is opt-in and capped. An org admin can enable automatic top-ups up to a monthly cap they set. The cap is the ceiling — it can't be exceeded.
- Alerts come early. The usage dashboard projects your run-out date from the current run rate and alerts at 50%, 80%, and 100% of the allowance.
Top-ups and roll-over
Included monthly credits reset each billing cycle. Purchased top-up packs roll over — they sit behind your included allowance and get drawn only after it's spent. Packs come in three sizes, priced in the app.
How BYOK changes the math
With bring-your-own-key, model usage bills directly to your provider account — Akili adds no markup, and those calls don't draw from your credit pool. Included server-side models draw credits instead. Most teams run a mix: BYOK for the providers they already have agreements with, credits for everything else.
Marketplace charges
Per-chat marketplace agents add a credit surcharge set by the agent's developer. You always see the price before invoking — including how many chats your current balance affords — and the same reserve-then-settle rail applies, so a marketplace agent can't overspend your balance either.
